Week 13 Changing Landscape of Licensed Characters

Week 13 Changing Landscape of Licensed Characters

When I was a kid, I imagine superhero as someone who is so perfect and that is nothing he can’t achieve. Always give their power to people whom need them and always looks cool~  Nowadays, superheroes, somehow, are weaker than before. They have more flaws and more personality in them, which does bring them closer to the audience since now they can be “understand”. I guess we just don’t like things there are way too perfect, too complete that we can’t see ourselves reflection in them. Today’s superhero movies all wants to tell the story inside the audience, to build that kind of emotional connection with the audience, and have lots of up-and-down in the plot to give the audience that kind of roller coasters feeling when watching it. I wouldn’t say it is getting better or worse, but one thing I do find funny, and not to offense any superhero’s fans, is no matter how author changes the appearance of superhero, the superhero still ends up beat down some kind of villains to show that they have everything in control. I mean, what is the point of changing the image of superhero but maintain their biggest obstacle the same? I believe that are not that much bad ass in our daily life, so what is the point of try to build connection between audience and superhero when we don’t really need that much superheroes in our life? To be more clear, why can’t the superhero fight the greenhouse effect, fight the air pollution and fight for their bad marriage? Why they all end up fighting someone? I just don’t get it…
